Any thoughts?
« on: February 04, 2007, 01:16:51 PM »

I'm throwing this open.

We've got the forums, and the fledgling news site (http://deadite.net/news)

Is there anything we can do or add to add to your experience? Do you want to get involved? Do you have any ideas how we can improve?

Any and all comments and suggestions are welcome.

Not much I can do about that i'm afraid. These forums aren't part of Newzbin, so it's out of my control.

However, if you have any ideas about how to increase the userbase, i'll be happy to hear them.

The forums were set up to replace the original Newzbin forums.

I don't think a merger with another forum would be of any benefit. It's all a matter of coming up with something that visitors want. That's why I started this topic, to see if anyone had any sound ideas.

shaitan maybe if we offer free usenet lessons or something?

I don't know. I know no one wants to teach someone to use usenet and its always best for people to learn usenet on their own first! I know horrible idea lol.

Maybe have a section for guides on the top 5 newsreaders, quickpar, winrar, winzip and any other programs that are commonly used. I know this has been done on other forums, but if it's don here those of us that use other forums could provide links to here to increase traffic (if that's what your looking for).
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

Not a bad idea. I'll create a new section tonight called User Guides.

Hopefully, we'll get some good guides relating to all the programs/tools that people use.

Hello,
Long time no see ...

I don't know for this forum.
I know i enjoyed a lot the old ones and I learnt a lot from them.

I don't see how you could improve the number of readers.
The only way would be to re attach it to newzbin again, in some way ... (1-2-3 messages a day per users ? )
and that's probably not what you guys want to do...

i dunno ...

Simply having a news item on Newzbin front page reminding people that the forum is here would probably create more users, as the news items there are few and far between it would get a fair amount of views i would think.  Although you probably split off for a reason so this is maybe not an option?

Yeah, guides are always good.
are you not allowed to link to this forum from the top panel? (    *   Home  * News    * Browse    * Search    * My Account    * Support     Statistics    * Forum   * Help)

It would be alot more noticable.
And perhaps change the forum? Cheap-forums seems abit....cheap :P
Maybe try Invisionboard, vBulletin or phpBB? They seem alot more advanced
- If newzbin wont pay for it, invisionfree offers free invisionboards (I dont know what theyre capable of tho)

First off, these forums are not part of, nor are they run by Newzbin. There's an advert for the forums on v3 of the site, but that's as far as it goes.
As for using a different forum software, I tried the others, and I wasn't overly keen on them. SMF does what I need it to do.
As for cheap-forums, i'm not averse to change. That's something I can look into.
