Didn't these e-penis threads go out of style in 1999
There's a monthly post of this sort on Broadband Reports, in their Computer Hardware
Discussion/Reviews forum. Only it is for those who have bought or built a system in that
month, or have made any changes/upgrades to their existing system.
Anyway, here are mine (for 3 systems, one of which is not built yet)
My current desktop:
AMD Athlon64 San Diego 3700+
DFI LanParty nf4 Ultra-D
2 GB of Corsair XMS DDR400
Apevia Xplorer Case
ThermalTake Purepower W0129RU 600W Power Supply
Pioneer DVR115D DVD-RW
Plextor PX-750A DVD-RW
Maxtor 3160812AS 160GB SATA II
Maxtor 6Y120P0 120GB IDE
Western Digital WD1200JB120GB IDE
Maxtor 7H500F0 500GB SATA II
Seagate ST3300831AS 300GB SATA
Seagate ST31000340AS 1TB (yes this is one of the ones that were failing due to
faulty firmware; no it doesn't have the firmware that is causing the problems)
Seagate FreeAgent Desktop USB (2), 320GB, 750GB
Seagate 1394A ST3400832A 400GB, and a similar model 300GB
(The 4 external drives have everything I've ever downloaded from Usenet,
torrents, p2p and sites like Amazon mp3, eMusic, and my own CD rips on them)
ViewSonic VG2021M LCD Monitor
Windows XP Home SP3
My new Laptop:
Dell Vostro 1710
Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 @ 2.0 GHz
2 GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 8600GT 256MB
8X DVD RW/DL Burner
250GB 7200RPM Fujitsu SATA HDD
17" WUXGA LCD Display
Windows XP Pro SP3
I recently bought the following (I'm going to be using my existing case, most of the hard drives, and the power supply)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 GHz CPU
Asus P5Q SE Plus MB
2GB (2x1GB) G.Skill DDR2 1066 RAM (F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK)
XFX PV-T84G-YAJG NVidia GeForce 8600GT 540M 512MB DDR2
Lite-On 22X SATA DVD-RW
SYBA PCI - Firewire 1394A 3+1 ports controller card
I still need to get another 1 TB drive, which will replace both IDE drives, the 300GB SATA and
500GB SATA. I have an old WD Velociraptor 74GB SATA from my previous system I'm thinking of using .as my boot drive for the new one.
I will likely run Windows XP again, reinstalling from my retail CD.
Why Intel? Up until now, I have been a big AMD fanboy. Every system I've ever built or bought has used an AMD CPU. But lately AMD has fallen behind Intel in performance.
