pbTV - Show scheduler & reminder
« on: October 22, 2008, 02:57:07 PM »

Hi,

I am looking for several beta testers to try out my new application called pbTV.

This application allows you to search and add TV shows that you want to schedule and be reminded about.  It will display time until it is aired and if it has been aired already.

When a show is aired, double clicking it will open your browser to newzbin website and display the show for you to download.

Features so far:-

- Add any show to your schedule.
- Download link to Newzbin.com usenet service for the shows aired.
- Sort your list of shows to display which shows are scheduled or unscheduled.
- Full show search, partial name search

Features Coming Soon:-
- Email reminders
- Show information including the next and previous episides.
- Automated nzb download with rules to allow SDef/ HD / first available etc (TBD)

Please register an account on the site so that I can keep you informed of any changes and updates.

I have moved the application to the public area at the following location:
http://www.pb-net.co.uk

I look forward to hearing your comments soon.

Thanks

Paul

Is this for Mac, Linux, Windows, Commodore 64, or "All of the above"?

Hi,

This software is for Windows based systems only (XP and Vista).  There are no plans for a Mac or Linux version at this time.

Hi Stilllife,

No-one has offered to beta test this yet.  If you want to be the first then let me know.  I am just making some changes to it and can get something ready in the next week.

I wrote this app because I found it more and more difficult to keep tabs of what tv shows I've seen or not seen and wanted something to remind me of what has been aired so I know what to look for on newzbin.

I find it very useful and wanted to share it / develop it further hence mentioning it on this forum.

Hope to hear back

I'm always up to try new TV-style apps. Registered to a site, but I am not sure what to do next.

Hi,

Thank you for showing an interest in this software.  I am now ready to release it as v1.0.0.6 beta.  If you have already signed up for this software via my website then you should have already received an email with the download link.

This software was developed on a Vista 64bit and I have not tested on a 32 bit system yet.  Please let me know any installation issues / usage issues you have and any feedback is welcome.

Requirements: .Net 3.5 Framework is required. If this is not installed on your system the installer will automatically download it from Microsoft and install it.

Instructions:

pbTV is very simple to run.  When you first run pbTV you will have a empty database.

To add a new show to the database:
[1] Click on the "Add New Show" button.  A new window will open with a search box.  [2] Enter a show name (or partial show name) and click on the "Search" button.  You will be presented with a list of shows.
[3] Select the show(s) from the list (they will be highlighted when selected) and click the "Add" button.
[4] When you have finished adding shows to the database close the search window and the main application will show again with the shows you added shown in order of the air date and time.

Downloading from Newzbin:
[1] When a show has already been aired it will tell you.  Double clicking it will take you directly to Newzbin download for this show.

Deleting a show from the database:
[1] From the database display tick the box to any show you want to delete from the database and click the "Delete Selected Show(s)" button.

Updating the database:
[1] Click the "Update" button to re-calculate the air dates.  (This will be a automatic feature in the next version).

Sorting:
[1] The links on the left hand "Scheduled Shows", Unscheduled Shows", "All Shows" will sort the database view into these categories.  Defaults to "Scheduled Shows".

Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks

Paul

An error starting up pbTV has now been rectified.

Fixes:
  • During setup the installation will now attempt to download and install SqlServerCe3.5 if it is not detected on your system.  SqlServerCe is a mobile database server required to hold your show information.
  • Fixed a bug that attempted to use the Vista common program data directory ("C:\ProgramData") on a non Vista system.

I have moved the application to the public area at the following location:
http://www.pb-net.co.uk

Let me know if you have any issues.

Regards

Paul
