8 Gig 1080p Movies?
« on: November 18, 2007, 11:42:47 AM »

Is there any point of downloading this new breed of low weight 1080p movies? I mean even if they started as Full HD they have to have been compressed to nowhere near that. Any thoughts?

I assume you mean x264s? Think of them like DivX - you'd be pretty happy with a 700MB DivX of a DVD most of the time if you just wanted a quick download; these are basically the same thing for HD.

The resolution is still there, just the bitrate's a bit lower, the same as a DivX dvdrip. Perfectly watchable unless you're 2" from the screen and looking for the blockiness.

Thank you. I'll go for the x264s in the future then - the full versions are still at bit too heavy for my liking.

mkv's are a hell of alot easier to play too. It's annoying having to fiddle about with image files or opening them off the hard-drive in power DVD.
